C.H. JoAnn Park: Saving It For Later/Making It Better
The Closet Box Micro-Gallery/Wonder Emporium announces the opening ofC.H.JoAnn Park:Saving It For Later/Making It Better, a new exhibition of sculpture and installation.Artist reception is Saturday, September18, 2010, from 7:30PM – 9:30PM
Closet romantic, reluctant pragmatist, and purveyor of the bittersweet, Park’s latest offering is an installation chronicling the after-lives of the battered, broken, and discarded.Items ranging from chipped tchotchkes to broken baubles are lovingly assembled and together and line the shelves of The Closet Box.While some items are preserved in hopes of seeing a time for repair, restoration, or simple use, other items, beyond the hope of repair, become gilded specimens. However, more than a mere exercise in bedazzling at will, the work becomes a greater metaphor for the need to cling to the past and asks, “How much is too much?” and “When will it be safe to let go?”Park draws a fine line between tenacity and obsession through layers of humor, gold-leaf and glitter, and lots of stuff.
C.H.JoAnn Park:Saving It For Later/Making It Better is on view September 18, 2010 through October 21, 2010 in The Closet Box of Box13 ArtSpace at 6700 Harrisburg Boulevard, Houston, Texas 77011.
About the artist:C.H. JoAnn Park is a Houston-based artist. She graduated from the University of Houston with a BFA in Studio Arts.Park enjoys long walks on the beach and fine wine.Well, no, she doesn’t really. She is somewhat ambivalent about beaches, liking the idea of them more than the actual act of beach-going, and she’s allergic to alcohol. She does, however, thoroughly enjoy bunnies, glitter, big trucks, the hardware store, pretty things, pocket pets, and most other animals. She has deep misgivings about chimpanzees, but adores cheese, both metaphorically and literally.
